First Year Girls Basketball News

The First Year girls got off to a great start in their basketball league this term. Their very first game was against Colaiste Mhuire, Johnstown. The girls led for most of the match with scores by Robyn Butler, Avril Dooley and Michelle Kelly. Unfortunately two very late scores by the opposition meant the girls lost this game 18:15. However the girls didn’t feel like they lost, but that they had learned. Before the game Ms. Bolger quoted Conor McGregor’s coach and said ‘we win or we learn’. This gave them great motivation to fight for their next game, and fight they did.

Their second match was against Scoil Ruain, Tipperary. This time the girls were behind most of the game, and had to put in huge efforts to try to close the score gap. Scores by Sabina Hudak helped them get closer. The last quarter was very tight with the game finishing level 22:22. The game then went to extra time with Robyn Butler finally getting the winning score after many attempts. A well fought win for the girls. Two games are left to be played in the league. Best of luck, girls!
